Apple Donut Holes Air Fryer Recipe

How to make delicious and easy semi-homemade air fryer apple donut holes.  These delicious treats are donuts from crescent rolls, so they are quick and easy to make.  I like to make air fryer donut holes with crescent rolls, but I also have directions to bake them in the oven.

Apple Air Fryer Crescent Roll Donuts

We've been up to our eyeballs in apples.  We have a large orchard with several types of apples, so I canned sliced cinnamon apples, apple pie filling, and applesauce.

Dakota made a delicious apple pie, and we've been eating applesauce almost every day.  The kids also love this air fryer apple donut holes recipe.

Does an Air Fryer Work for Donuts?

Yes, I love using my air fryer for breads and air fryer donut holes.  It uses less electricity than turning on the oven, and it works really well.

I find that bread products turn out light and fluffy in the air fryer.  These apple donut holes are amazing in the air fryer!

If you don’t have an air fryer, you can make donuts from crescent rolls. Directions are below for apple donut holes in the oven.

I really love my PowerXL air fryer.  It’s an oven, grill, air fryer, and toaster oven in one.  We use it at least once a day.

Are Air Fried Donuts Healthy?

While air fryer crescent roll donuts aren’t deep fried in oil and have less fat and oil than fried apple donut holes, these Pillsbury crescent roll donuts aren’t exactly healthy.

The crescent rolls are made with white flour, and the pie filling has sugar in it.

I also top my apple donut holes with cinnamon sugar, but this is optional.

What is a Crescent Donut or Cronut?

Cronuts are donuts made from crescent rolls.  You’ll often see air fryer donut holes made with canned biscuits, and these are delicious.

I have recipes for making donuts from biscuits and air fryer donuts from Pillsbury biscuits.  Both are really good.

However, donuts from crescent rolls are fluffier and softer I think.  Both biscuits and Pillsbury crescent roll donuts are delicious.

I use Aldi brand crescent rolls.  They are much cheaper than the name brand, and they taste great.

You can use canned biscuits to make air fryer apple donuts if you prefer.

Apple Pie Filling for Crescent Roll Donut Holes

I used canned apple pie filling to make my crescent roll donuts air fryer.  I make my own apple pie filling, but you can certainly use a can from the store.

Unlike the crescent rolls that are the same in generic, I do recommend using a good quality apple pie filling.

If I have to buy it, I prefer the Duncan Hines Comstock Simply Apple or Musselman's Apple Pie Filling.

Both are really good for canned pie fillings.  To be honest, I haven't tried other brands that I liked, but I haven't tried a lot either.

You can also use apple pie filling to make these easy mini apple pies.

Air Fryer Crescent Roll Donuts Variations

These apple donut holes are fairly basic, but you can make some variations.  Here are some to try:

  • Substitute the apple pie filling for your favorite pie filling.  You can also add some cream cheese with the pie filling.
  • Use jam or jelly instead of the pie filling.  These would be amazing with Instant Pot strawberry jam or low sugar blueberry jam.
  • Omit the cinnamon sugar if desired.
  • Drizzle icing over the top.

How to Make Pillsbury Crescent Roll Donuts in the Oven

You can easily adapt these air fryer crescent roll donuts for the oven.  Bake apple donut holes at 375 degrees F for 10 to 15 minutes.

Check on them at 10 minutes because the time will vary with the size of the crescent roll donut holes.
