How to Make Fabric Pumpkins Without Sewing

My daughter loves to sew, and she's good at it.  Me?  Not so much.

Give me a glue gun instead of a sewing machine, and I'll give you some cute crafts.  But sewing isn't my thing.

I like the looks of fabric pumpkins, so I wanted to make no sew fabric pumpkins.

Of course, I went to my favorite craft store: Dollar Tree.  Dollar Tree fall craft ideas help you decorate your home on the cheap!

This fabric pumpkin tutorial only costs a few dollars to make, and you'll have some supplies left over.

If you're like me and don't want to sew, then you're in luck!  There are several no sew fabric pumpkins that you can make.

This post has a tutorial for pool noodle pumpkins.  You can also make a larger fabric pumpkin craft with a pool noodle and a plastic pumpkin bucket with this buffalo check pumpkin decor tutorial

I also used a strawberry basket to make a DIY no sew fabric pumpkin.

How Do You Cut Pool Noodles?

You'll need to cut pool noodles to make these Dollar Tree fall craft ideas.  Pool noodles can be a bit tricky to cut, so be careful when cutting.

Here are some ways to cut pool noodles:

Personally, I don't like to use non serrated knife or utility knife because they can easily slip off of the foam and hurt you.

How Do You Make a Farmhouse Fabric Pumpkin?

You can easily make these no sew fabric pumpkins farmhouse themed by using farmhouse themed fabric.  Buffalo check is neutral and popular for fall.

However, you can also use farmhouse themed fabric.  You can cut fabric from the bolt, reuse fabric, or buy fat quarters to make this fabric pumpkin craft.

Dollar Tree has some cute farmhouse fabric.  You can also find sets on Etsy and Amazon.

What To Use for Stems on Fabric Pumpkins?

I used wooden stems from Dollar Tree.  You can also use corks or even real sticks from your backyard.

You can order the wooden stems from Dollar Tree if you can't find them in store, but you have to buy 36 of them.  You can find birch wood stems on Amazon, too.

How Do You Make Fake Pumpkin Vines?

I used green felt to make the leaves and natural jute twine to make the stems for my Dollar Tree fall pumpkins.

Easy DIY Fabric Pumpkins Materials

You will need the following to learn how to make fabric pumpkins without sewing:

How Do You Make a Pumpkin Out of a Pool Noodle?

Step #1

Measure and cut the pool noodles to 2 inches, 2 1/2 inches, and 3 inches long for three sizes.  User a serrated knife to cut the pool noodles.  This is a step for adults, and kids should not cut the pool noodles.

Then use your scissors to trim around the top and bottom of each section to round the edges.  Try to create a pumpkin shape.

Step #2

Cut the fabric into squares.  You will need an 8 inch square for the 2 inch pumpkin; 10 inch square for the 2 1/2 inch pumpkin, and a 12 inch square for the 3 inch pumpkin.

Step #3

Place the fabric square upside down on the table.  Place the cut pool noodle on top of the fabric and start tucking in one corner of the fabric into the top of the pool noodle.  Then tuck in an adjacent corner.  Continue to fold and tuck the fabric around the entire pool noodle.  Then push the fabric inside the pool noodle so the stem will fit inside.

Repeat to make the other two pumpkins.

Step #4

Select three wood stems.  Then place in the top of the easy DIY fabric pumpkins and use hot glue to secure.

Step #5

Cut leaf shapes from the green felt with pinking shears or regular scissors.  Run a line of hot glue at the base of the leaves and fold in half.  This is optional, but it gives the leaf some dimension.  Cut 8 inch sections of twine.

Step #6

Use hot glue to attach the leaves to the pool noodle pumpkins.  Then tie the jute around the base of the stem.
