How to Make Rustic Farmhouse Coasters DIY (Canning Ring Crafts)

Learn how to make rustic farmhouse coasters DIY.  This is an easy canning ring crafts to reuse old canning rings.  These are very easy to make, and they make great gifts!

I'm so glad the farmhouse trend is a thing.  I live in an actual farmhouse that was build in the late 1800s.

I actually live in the servants quarters that was beside the main farmhouse.  The Victorian style farmhouse is still going strong after being build in about 1865.

My house was added on to and modified, but it's still an old farmhouse with all of its quirks.

Living in a farmhouse isn't as glamorous as the homes on TV.  Real farmhouses have kitchens that you can almost turn around in.

If there are two people in the kitchen, plan on trampling each other if you need to grab anything.

But I digress.

Living on a farm and living the farm life, we can a lot of food each year.  I do reuse my canning rings, but at some point they are just too rusty to use again.

That's when they become canning ring crafts.  These farmhouse coasters DIY are easy to make with a few canning rings and some farmhouse themed stickers.

These drink coasters DIY are so easy to make.  You can make several of them in an afternoon.

I used farmhouse stickers for mine, but you can definitely change the look by choosing different stickers.

Canning Rings and Lids

I reused some canning rings.  I use them for canning until I see spots of rust.  At that point, they get turned into canning ring crafts.

The ones that had a lot of rust got turned into this canning ring wreath because I liked the rust and patina.

I have a box in the basement to store old lids in so they are available when I want them for canning ring crafts.

If you don't have a box of old rings (because most people sure don't!) then buy new canning rings to use for this rustic farmhouse coasters DIY.

I also used canning rings to make these fabric mason jar ring coasters.

You'll also need canning lids for some extra support flor your drink coasters DIY.  You can't reuse canning lids, so most people toss them.

I wash them and save them for crafts.  You can buy lids to use for this craft.

I do buy generic lids from the Amish, but I don't buy no name generic lids for my canning.  However, you can definitely go cheap for these farmhouse coasters DIY and buy generic lids.

You can also buy canning rings and lids together.

Farmhouse Stickers

I actually used paper crafting stickers for my rustic farmhouse coasters.  i picked up these farmhouse stickers at Hobby Lobby.

You can also find farmhouse stickers on Amazon or Etsy.  Choose what you like, just make sure they will fit on your ring.  A regular mouth canning ring is 2.5 inches in diameter.

Cork

You'll need cork to place on the lids.  These also absorb extra water and moisture.

You can use 4x4 cork coasters like I did or cut a larger piece of cork.  A larger pieces will be cheaper, especially if you want to make several of these rustic farmhouse coaster.

Other Supplies

You will also need brushes, regular Mod Podge, pencil, scissors, and a hot glue gun.
