Slice the lemon and orange into ¼ inch slices. Add all of the ingredients evenly between two quart mason jars except the vanilla extract and the water. If you don’t make your Christmas simmer pot right away, then store this in the fridge until needed if you use fresh fruit or spices.


Instant Pot Directions


To make the smell of Christmas potpourri in the Instant Pot, add the contents of the jar and set to saute. Add 2 cups of water and 2 tablespoons vanilla extract. Set the Instant Pot to warm and enjoy the scent. Leave the lid off and add water as needed.





Stovetop Directions


To make a Christmas stovetop potpourri, add the contents of the jar, 2 cups water water, and 2 tablespoons vanilla extract to a large saucepan. Bring it to a boil and then reduce to a simmer. Do not add a lid to the pan. Add more water as needed.


Slow Cooker Directions


To make your own Christmas potpourri in a Crock Pot slow cooker, add the jar contents, 2 cups water water, and 2 tablespoons vanilla extract to the slow cooker. Leave the lid off and turn the slow cooker to high. You can reduce the heat to medium if desired.

How to make a Christmas stovetop potpourri recipe with fresh or dried fruit, herbs, and spices.

materials:

  • 1 orange
  • 1 lemon
  • 1 cup cranberries
  • 2 tablespoons whole cloves
  • 2 tablespoons ground ginger
  • 1 tablespoon ground nutmeg
  • 5 cinnamon sticks
  • 3 bay leaves
  • 3 sprigs rosemary
  • 4 cups water
  • 4 tablespoons vanilla extract (make your own vanilla extract from vanilla beans)
  • 1-2 drops essential oils (optional)
