Air Fryer Pizza Pockets Recipe With Puff Pastry

Learn how to make an air fryer pizza pockets recipe.  This is easy with a premade puff pastry crust, or you can use a homemade dough for the crust.  Make several of them and freeze for a quick lunch later.

My kids love pizza pockets.  Every time I go to the store, they add it to the shopping list.

I'd prefer if they didn't eat the preservatives and other junk in the store bought ones, so we started making this air fryer pizza pockets recipe.

This is so easy, all three of my kids can make them.  They make a big batch and freeze them for later.

My kids are all teens 13 to 18, but younger kids should be able to help make their own.  Using the air fryer makes this easy, and I'm more comfortable with them using the air fryer than the oven.

Store bought pizza pockets are microwaved, but these will be soggy if you  microwave them.  The air fryer is quick and easy to make.

Air Fryer Pizza Pockets Recipe

Think of this as a base recipe.  Feel free to customize it.  Want pepperoni and sausage?  Ham and cheese?  Meatballs and marinara?  Go for it!

The basic directions will be the same, but cooking times may vary if you use different doughs.  I suggest trying it and keeping an eye on it while it's cooking.  Then make a note so you don't forget!

Air Fryer Cooking Times

Cooking times for air fryers can vary.  I recommend checking at 8 minutes and adding more time as necessary.

I have a NuWave Brio 6 quart air fryer.  I really like it, but I think I'd rather have a toaster oven style next time.

Puff Pastry

We really using like the puff pastry to make our air fryer pizza pockets.  You get 2 in a box, so you can make 6 pizza pockets with each box.

I buy them on sale and with a double coupon when I can.  They are already frozen, so I just put them in the freezer until we want to make them.

You can also use pie crusts.  It won't be as light and fluffy, but they are good.  My favorite store bought pie crust is from Aldi.  I scored them at $1 for each box of two, so we used a them for quite a while to make these air fryer pizza pockets.

You can also use pizza dough.  I have not tested it because if I'm making pizza dough, I'm making pizza.

How to Bake Homemade Pizza Pockets

If you don't have an air fryer, bake them in the oven at 400 degrees for 15 to 20 minutes.

How to Freeze Homemade Pizza Pockets

The point of this recipe is to be easy.  My kids like them for a quick lunch.  Even though we homeschool, they only get an hour to eat and have time off.

We make several of them and place them on a baking sheet.  I put a silicone mat on the baking sheet so they don't stick.

Then freeze on the pan until they are completely frozen.  Then transfer to a freezer bag.  I like these reusable freezer bags.

Be sure to label what kind they are if you make different kinds.

When you want to make them, place the frozen pizza pocket in the air fryer and cook at 350 degrees F for 11 to 13 minutes.

Air Fryer Pizza Pocket Tips

  • If you use meat, be sure to cook it before you add it.  This includes bacon, ground beef, and sausage.
  • Let the puff pastry thaw at room temperature for at least 20 minutes before you use it.
  • Times vary for air fryers, so check on it 1 to 2 minutes early and adjust the time as necessary.
  • These pizza pockets will be hot!  Let cool for 5 minutes before serving.
  • If you want to get fancy, top them with grated Parmesan cheese or mozzarella cheese and dried oregano or pizza spices.
