How to Make a Dollar Tree Tiered Tray with Clothespins
Step 1: Prepare the Base
Place the larger burner cover upside down so the decorative side is facing the surface and not visible. This creates a smooth, clean base for your tiered tray.
Step 2: Attach the Vase Spacer
Flip the vase upside down. Apply E6000 glue to the bottom of the vase and add a small amount of hot glue for immediate hold.
Flip the vase right-side up and center it on the large burner cover. Press firmly to secure.
Step 3: Add the Top Tier
Repeat the same process on the top of the vase, then attach the smaller burner cover upside down (design facing down). This creates the second tier.
Set the tray aside and allow the E6000 glue to cure for several hours for maximum strength.
How to Stain Clothespins with Coffee (Natural Wood Look)
While the glue is drying, it’s time to prep the clothespins.
- Brew a strong cup of coffee or save used coffee grounds or a K-cup
- Place clothespins in a container and pour coffee over them
- Let soak overnight for a rich, aged wood look
Speed-Dry Option:
To dry faster, place clothespins on a cookie sheet and bake at 250°F for about 25 minutes. Let cool completely.
Step 4: Add Clothespins to Your Tiered Tray
Once dry, clip the stained clothespins around the top burner cover. You can also add them to the bottom tier or decorate both tiers (use 3 packs of clothespins if doing both).
This detail adds texture and makes the tray perfect for holding mini signs, greenery, or seasonal accents.
Styling Ideas for Your DIY Tiered Tray
This DIY farmhouse tiered tray is easy to style year-round:
- Spring: faux greenery, mini watering cans
- Summer: lemon decor, Rae Dunn–style signs
- Fall: mini pumpkins, warm neutrals
- Winter: pinecones, cozy mugs, mini trees
I get my tiered tray decorations at Aldi. They have the cutest seasonal decor for around $6 a pack.
It also works beautifully as coffee bar decor or kitchen countertop styling.
Tips for Success
- Always use E6000 plus hot glue for strength
- Let glue cure fully before decorating
- Coffee stain gives a softer, more natural finish than paint
- Seal with clear spray sealer if using in humid areas
