How to Make Strawberry Starburst Jello Shots

If you're looking for a fun grown up drink for summer, try this pink Starburst Jello shots recipe.  It has a fun strawberry lemonade flavor that your guests will love.

Summer is coming!  Summer means bonfires with friends and spending time outside until well after dark.

It also means partaking in some adults drinks.  While I'm a White Claw girl (yes, I'm basic), I do enjoy these pink Starburst Jello shots.

My friends love them too!  Jelly shots are a fun drink, and the strawberry Starburst Jello shots have a great summer flavor.

You make them ahead of time, which is perfect for party prep.  Just leave them in the fridge until the party.  No scrabbling to put things together as your guests arrive.

How to Make Starburst Jello Shots

Starburst came out with several different flavors of gelatin.  I used the pink strawberry flavor for my strawberry Starburst Jello shots recipe.

They also have cherry, lemon, and blue raspberry gelatin available.

I also have a peach Jello shots recipe with vodka.

This recipe is for 21 and up.  Please drink responsibly.

What Does the Pink Starburst Taste Like?

Most people refer to the Starburst candy as just pink, but it's actually strawberry.  When you use the pink gelatin to make these, you'll be making strawberry Starburst Jello shots.

What is the Best Liquor to Use for Jello Shots?

You can use any alcohol to make pink Starburst Jello shots.  Vodka is the most common alcohol for strawberry Starburst Jello shots.

Personally, I used Svedka Strawberry Lemonade vodka.  However, plain vodka will be fine.

You can also use rum or tequila.  The directions are the same if you substitute another alcohol.

How Vodka Can I Put in Jello Shots?

You will use 1 1/2 cups of vodka to make pink Starburst Jello shots.  To adapt a recipe, generally you will substitute half of the liquid for alcohol.

What Happens If You Put Too Much Alcohol in Jello Shots?

If you add too much alcohol when you learn how to make strawberry Starburst Jello shots, then they may not set up.

They will be a liquid.  It will still taste good, but it won't be a Jello shot.

Do You Have to Put Water in Jello Shots?

Yes, you do need to add water to your strawberry Starburst Jello shots.  Without water, they won't set up properly.

How Do You Make Jello Shots Not Stick?

I use soufflé cups to make my pink Starburst Jello shots recipe.  Then they are in individual servings and easy to grab.

However, sometimes pink Starburst Jello shots can get stuck in the cup.  To help them release easier, put a very small amount of vegetable oil or refined coconut oil on a paper towel and wipe the inside of the soufflé cup before pouring the strawberry Starburst Jello shots recipe into the cups.

Can You Put Jello Shots in Cupcake Liners?

Yes, you can pour pink Starburst Jello shots into cupcake liners.  Set the liners inside a muffin tin.

Liners are inexpensive and easy to find, but sometimes the paper sticks to the gelatin.

You will also be limited to making 12 at a time.  For small batches that's fine, but if you need to make a lot, then this will take a long time.

Cupcake liners also don't stack.  I like the soufflé cups because they are stackable and have their own lid.

Will Jello Shots Set at Room Temperature?

Yes, this Starburst Jello shots recipe will set up at room temperature, but it will take longer.  It could take 2 to 4 hours to properly set up.

Can You Put Jello Shots in the Freezer to Set Faster?

No, sorry, you can put this pink Starburst Jello shots recipe in the freezer to set up faster.  It won't set up faster, and it will form a layer of ice on the top.

How Long Do Pink Starburst Jello Shots Last?

You can make this strawberry Jello shots recipe up to five days in advance.  They will last in the fridge for 3 to 5 days.

However, for best results, use them within a day or two.  If they change color, smell funny, or water starts to collect on the top or sides, then they are not safe to eat.

Starburst Jello Shots Recipe Tips

Use these tips when yo learn how to make strawberry Starburst Jello shots:

  • Chill the vodka or other alcohol first.  Since you add it to hot water, it can burn off some of the alcohol.
  • A 6 ounce box of gelatin makes about 16 to 20 Jello shots, and a 3 ounce box will make about 8 to 10.
  • Plan to make about 4 strawberry Starburst Jello shots per person.
  • Use soufflé cups to pour your Jello shots in.  Then put the lid on and they will stack in the fridge.
  • Don't freeze your Starburst Jello shots recipe.  It won't set up faster, but the water may freeze and form ice on the top.
  • Don't add more alcohol because they may not set up properly.
  • Add a drop of vegetable oil to a paper towel and wipe the insides of the cups before you pour the pink Starburst Jello shots.
  • Make your Starburst Jello shots recipe up to 5 days before you need them, but they are best when used within 1 to 3 days.
  • Use plain unflavored vodka, rum, or tequila if desired.
  • Substitute pink Starburst gelatin for blue raspberry, lemon, or cherry.
