Instant Pot Apple Cinnamon Oatmeal Recipe

How to make an easy and delicious Instant Pot apple cinnamon oatmeal recipe.  In about 10 minutes, your family will enjoy a hot breakfast.  This Instant Pot oatmeal recipe uses fresh apples and old fashioned oats.

It takes me a cup or two of coffee before I get moving in the morning.  I can barely function before that first cup of coffee.

My kids are teens now, so they can get their own breakfasts.  Although they are happy with cereal or toast, I do like them to have something a little more filling if we have a big day ahead.

This Instant Pot apple cinnamon oatmeal recipe is a great way to start the day.  It has fresh apples, so they get some fruit and some long lasting grains.

It uses old fashioned oats and fresh apples, and it's so delicious.  It's a warm and filling breakfast that takes little brain power before I get my coffee.

This instant Pot oatmeal rolled oats also reheats well, so make some on Monday to enjoy all week.

How Do You Cook Oatmeal in the Instant Pot?

You can make a large batch of Instant Pot oatmeal apple cinnamon right in the inner liner or use the pot in pot (PIP) method to make an Instant Pot oatmeal recipe.

PIP is better for smaller batches because oatmeal is likely to burn.  It also makes clean up much easier.  This Instant Pot apple cinnamon rolled oatmeal recipe is too big to make PIP.

This recipe is for four servings, but you can divide it in half and make two servings using the PIP method.

Why Use the Instant Pot to Make Instant Pot Oatmeal Rolled Oats?

Making Instant Pot apple cinnamon rolled oatmeal isn't really much of a time saver, but it is easier for me to make.

I just have to sauté the apples to cook them then place the oats and other ingredients in the Instant Pot and set the timer.  Then I can walk away and start getting ready for the day.

The pressure cooker also keeps these Instant Pot oatmeal rolled oats warm.  My kids get up at staggering times, so I can make it once and keep it warm.

Oatmeal Benefits

Oatmeal has several benefits for your health, so this is a great way to start your day.  They are a nutrient dense food with protein and good fats that your body needs.

In one serving of oats, you'll get:

  • Manganese
  • Phosphorus
  • Magnesium
  • Copper
  • Iron
  • Zinc
  • Folate
  • Vitamin B1
  • Vitamin B5
  • Calcium
  • Potassium
  • Vitamin B6
  • Vitamin B3

As if the list of vitamins and minerals, fiber, and protein aren't enough, oats are also high in antioxidants.  The antioxidants can lead to reduce blood pressure and other benefits.

Oats also have a soluble fiber called Beta-Glucan  This can help lower LDL and total cholesterol levels, lower blood sugar, and help you feel fuller.

As you can see Instant Pot oatmeal rolled oats is a great way to start your day!

Old Fashioned Oats vs Steel Cut Oats

This Instant Pot apple cinnamon oatmeal recipe is made with old fashioned oats, but you can make it with steel cut oats.

Steel cut oats and old fashioned oats come from the same plant, but the difference is in how they are processed.

Old fashioned oats are steamed and then rolled so they cook quicker.  They are tender and cook faster, so they are often used in cookies or oatmeal.

Steel cut oats aren't processed as much.  They look rougher and more like a grain.  They have a firmer almost chewy texture.  They also take longer to cook.

If you want to make Instant Pot steel cut oatmeal, cook for 4 minutes and let the Instant Pot naturally release.  This helps the oats absorb more liquid.

Personally, I like the steel cut oats for Instant Pot oatmeal apple.  I like the texture.  My kids are used to steel cut oats, too.

How to Reheat Instant Pot Oatmeal Rolled Oats

You can make a big batch of this Instant Pot apple cinnamon oatmeal recipe.  Just put leftovers in the fridge until you are ready for them.

I use the microwave and not the Instant Pot.  Just spoon a serving into a glass microwavable bowl.  The oatmeal will be in a big clump, so break it up with a spoon.

Then add about 1/4 cup of water or milk.  You can try to stir, but it won't stir well.  It's fine, just microwave for about a minute.

Then stir again and microwave for 30 to 60 seconds.

Your Instant Pot oatmeal apple will last a few days in the fridge, so make it on Monday and have it all week.

Instant Pot

I use the 6 quart Instant Pot Duo.  It's the perfect size for a family of 5.  I use it several times a week for many different recipes and food prep.

It's a great size to make 4 servings of an Instant Pot oatmeal recipe.

Here are some of my favorite ways to use my Instant Pot:

I actually have two Instant Pots because I use them so much!  I got two 6-quarts, but I wish I'd gotten an 8-quart.
