Easy Instant Pot Apple Butter With Cinnamon Red Hots (With Crock Pot Directions Too!)

24 August

How to make Instant Pot apple butter.  This is a delicious apple butter recipe using red hot candies, so it's incredibly easy to make and tastes amazing.  This red hot apple butter recipe is safe for canning, but it makes a small batch.  You can also freeze leftovers.

We have an apple orchard with several kinds of apples.  I have apples for baking, apples for pies, apples for eating, and apples for sauce.

I usually make a traditional apple butter recipe each year, but we also really like this easy Instant Pot apple butter made with cinnamon red hot candy.

This makes a small batch of about 4 cups of applesauce.  It's safe for canning, but I don't normally can it just because it doesn't make enough to mess with canning.

Instant Pot Apple Butter Recipe

For a traditional apple butter recipe, try my Crock Pot apple butter recipe.  That recipe uses traditional spices to make apple butter, and it's so easy to make in a slow cooker.

That recipe also starts with applesauce.  I like it because I can can or freeze some applesauce and then make my apple butter later.

This recipe is for how to make Instant Pot apple butter with fresh apples.

Why Do They Call Apple Butter Butter?

This easy Instant Pot apple butter doesn't have any butter in it.  It's called apple butter because it's smooth and buttery.

Does Apple Butter Taste Like Butter?

No, a red hot apple butter recipe doesn't taste like butter.  However, it does taste smooth.  The flavors are concentrated, so it tastes rich and sweet.

What Does Apple Butter Taste Like?

Traditional apple butter tastes like concentrated apples and spices.  It's smooth and buttery tasting.  This red hot apple butter recipe tastes more like cinnamon apples.

What is the Difference Between Apple Butter and Apple Jam?

Apple jam is really good;  I have a low sugar apple jelly recipe that you can try.  Apple jelly or apple jam is made with fruit or fruit juice, sugar, and pectin.

This apple butter in Instant Pot is made with apples, sugar, vanilla, and red hot candies.  It gets it's sweet flavor from the sugar in the apples carnalizing more than it does from the sugar.  This gives it a richer, deeper flavor.

How Do You Know if Apple Butter is Thick Enough?

Your apple butter recipe using red hot candies is thick when you can put some on a spoon and hold it away from the steam for 2 minutes.  The easy Instant Pot apple butter should hold its shape and remain rounded on the spoon.

Why Isn't My Apple Butter Thickening?

When you learn how to make Instant Pot apple butter, you'll need to be patient.  You may have to sauté again to remove more water.

What Can I Use to Thicken Apple Butter?

You really don't want to add anything to thicken your Instant Pot apple butter recipe.  Apple butter gets its distinct flavor from the sugar in the apples caramelizing.  This takes a while.

If you add a thickener, then this means that the apples didn't cook long enough.  Thus, your apple butter in an Instant Pot won't taste as good as it could.

Will Apple Butter Thicken as it Cools?

Yes, your red hot apple butter recipe will thicken slightly as it cools.  However, I recommend performing the spoon test above to cook off as much water as you can.

What Do You Put Apple Butter On?

We eat apple butter on warm biscuits.  Here are more ways to enjoy apple butter:

  • Use on toast.
  • Spoon into oatmeal.
  • Top pancakes or waffles.
  • Use instead of applesauce in baking.
  • Brush on pork or chicken as a glaze.

Do I Need to Refrigerate Apple Butter?

Yes, this red hot apple butter recipe should be refrigerated.  You can also freeze it for longer storage.

How Long Will Homemade Apple Butter Keep in the Refrigerator?

This Instant Pot apple butter recipe will last up to three months in the fridge.  You can also freeze it for up to a year.

How Do You Freeze Apple Butter?

Since this makes a small batch of easy Instant Pot apple butter, I freeze leftovers.  I use freezer containers and place in the freezer for up to a year.
