Melting Snowman Hot Chocolate Bombs With White Chocolate

Learn how to to make melting snowman hot chocolate bombs with white chocolate. These adorable little balls are filled with hot cocoa mix and marshmallows. The chocolate melts in warm water or milk for a delicious hot chocolate drink.

Hot chocolate bombs are all the rage on social media sites such as TikTok and Instagram, and for good reason. A white hot chocolate bomb is a hollow sphere of delicious white chocolate filled with a hot cocoa mix, as well as other goodies like marshmallows.

These fun treats are very similar to bath bombs, except you put them in a mug of hot water or milk and stir for a delicious cup of hot chocolate. Hot chocolate bombs are great seasonal treats, and are simple to make.

Following is the perfect and simple recipe for making your very own delectable white chocolate hot chocolate bombs, perfect for any occasion. These white hot chocolate bombs are a perfect treat for the holidays, and taste great!

Melting Snowman Hot Chocolate Bombs With Marshmallows

Last week, we learned how to make hot chocolate bombs with marshmallows.  This week, we are putting a fun spin on it.  These peppermint candy cane hot chocolate bombs are also made in a similar way.

If you want to make these without using a mold, try my hot cocoa spoons recipe.  For a different kind of drink, try my hot apple cider bombs.

These would be cute with my melting snowman sugar cookies for a themed treat.

What Are Hot Chocolate Bombs?

Hot chocolate bombs are cute little balls of chocolate filled with hot cocoa mix and sometimes marshmallows inside.

To use, place it in a mug.  Then pour warm milk or water over the top of it.

The chocolate melts, releasing the hot cocoa mix.  When it's fully melted, stir and enjoy!

Chocolate

You will want to select a high quality chocolate to make your bombs. Melting white Hershey’s bars or white chocolate chips is not recommended as they are often too soft and melty to make into hot chocolate bombs.

If you are following a low sugar or keto diet, you can get no sugar added white chocolate chips to make these melting snowman hot chocolate bombs with white chocolate.

However, if you do want to use one of these types of chocolates, you can simply add two teaspoons of coconut oil per cup of chocolate. I recommend using unrefined coconut oil as it will not affect the taste, but refined will still work.

Instead, I suggest using white chocolate wafers for this recipe which you can get at any grocery or baking store. Wafers are made specifically to melt and use in recipes, and they have a great texture to them.

Although you could use this recipe to make colored white chocolate hot chocolate bombs, you can't just use food coloring to color the chocolate.

Food coloring is water based, and it can cause the chocolate to get gritty.  If you want to color your chocolate, start with colored white chocolate wafers

Melting Your White Chocolate

There are three main ways to melt chocolate: double boiler, microwave, and chocolate melter. While all three methods will be discussed, I never have much luck trying to use the microwave to melt chocolate.

I personally recommend either the double boiler, or the incredible convenient Wilton Chocolate melting pot.  It gives me consistent results each time, so I like it.

You can also make a double boiler with an Instant Pot.

Microwave

Unfortunately, chocolate tends to burn when melting in the microwave, so if you are using this method be very careful. Melt chocolate in intervals of about 20 seconds on high in the microwave.

A readers wrote to me and suggested not using a glass bowl in the microwave.  The glass heats up quickly, which can cause the chocolate to burn.

After each interval, remove the chocolate and stir until completely melted. Chocolate will melt as you stir, so be sure to stir it all to prevent it from burning.

Double Boiler

This used to be my preferred method. To start, fill the bottom of the double boiler up with water and place on low heat. Place your chocolate on top of the boiler, stirring often until melted.

Be sure you do not place a lid on the boiler, as it can create condensation which will drip into the chocolate and cause it to get gritty.

Melting Chocolate In A Wilton Chocolate Pot

After purchasing a Wilton Chocolate melting pot this is my go-to method for melting chocolate. Using one is incredibly simple, simply place your chocolate in the pot and turn it on.

Be sure to stir every few minutes to keep the chocolate melting evenly. With the Wilton Chocolate melting pot, clean up is incredibly easy. It uses a silicone insert which is incredibly easy to clean.

Additionally, the chocolate pops right out for storage once it is dried, eliminating the hassle of scraping chocolate out of a pot or bowl.

I own a sectioned insert for my Wilton, so I can melt two types of chocolate at once. You can use the sectioned insert to melt different kinds of chocolate at once.

Hot Chocolate Mix

For the recipe, you can use your favorite hot chocolate mix, but I prefer this sugar free recipe. I also recommend this delectable white hot chocolate mix which is perfect for your white hot chocolate bombs.

Personally, I love the combination of a dark hot chocolate mix with the white chocolate in the melting snowman hot chocolate bomb, but it's personal preference.

Chocolate Mold

For this recipe, you will need a half-sphere mold for the hot chocolate bombs. I prefer this one that makes a 2.5 inch sphere.  This size is perfect for white chocolate hot chocolate bomb recipes.

Edible Markers

Making the snowman face is so easy.  I used edible markers, so you don't need anything special.  You can use these for your regular cookie decorating this Christmas too.

This set of edible markers has several colors, and it has both a fine and a thick tip.

Of course, you can just l eave them as white chocolate hot chocolate bombs.

White Hot Chocolate Bomb Ideas

This is a rather simple recipe and as such is open to all sorts of delicious creativity. Consider these fun ideas to spice up your hot chocolate bombs:

  • Drizzle colored chocolate over the bombs
  • Use crushed candy canes or peppermints in lieu of marshmallows
  • Use chopped Andes mints instead of marshmallows
  • Use cappuccino mix instead of a hot chocolate mix.

Melting Snowman Hot Chocolate Bombs Ingredients

  • 2 cups white chocolate chips or wafers. (12 ounces)
  • 1 cup hot chocolate mix
  • 1 cup mini marshmallows

Melting Snowman Hot Chocolate Bomb Directions

Step #1

To start, melt your chocolate using your preferred method. Be sure to stir often for a consistent and even melt.

Step #2

Once the chocolate is melted, use a silicone brush to brush it onto the sides, as well as the bottom, of your mold. The chocolate should be fairly thin but still be sure to cover the entire mold. Then, place the mold into the freezer for about five or ten minutes.

Step #3

Now, place a pan on the stove and heat to a low temperature. Carefully remove one of your chocolate spheres and place it on the pan to smoothen out the bottom. This step must be done quick as to not melt the entirety of the chocolate.

Step #4

From here, you will want to fill up one of the spheres with the mix and marshmallows. If you need to you can mound up the marshmallows.

Step #5

Warm the other half of the sphere as to melt the chocolate.

Now gently press on the half that you previously filled, holding carefully yet firmly for about twenty seconds. Place in the freezer for five minutes.

If the two halves do not stick together, dip a spoon into the melted chocolate and work it around the sphere.

Step #6

Use edible markers to draw on a snowman face.

When it comes time to use your white hot chocolate bomb, simply place into a mug and pour hot water or milk over it. You will see the chocolate start to seep out and the marshmallows will scatter around the mug.
