Pumpkin Pie Pudding Shots Recipe

These fall pudding shots are perfect for your parties.  Serve them for Halloween, Thanksgiving, or a fall bonfire.  Jello pumpkin pudding shots are easy to make and make an easier alternative to Jello shots.

How to Make Pumpkin Pudding Shots

Looking for a fall drink idea?  These pumpkin pie pudding shots are so delicious!

You can make pudding shots with vodka or without, so these are perfect for any type of party.  If you're making these fall pudding shots without alcohol, then they are a delicious fall dessert.

I like to make these pumpkin spice Jello pudding shots just as they are, but I have some variations that you can try to change them up a little.

I really like that I can make this pumpkin pie pudding shots recipe ahead of time, so it's less work right before my guests arrive.

What is a Pudding Shot?

These pumpkin pie pudding shots are kind of like a Jello shot, but they are made with pudding instead.  I think they are easier to make, so I like making them instead of Jello shots.

You can make the Jello pumpkin pudding shots with or without alcohol.  Without vodka, they are a single serve pumpkin pie pudding in a cup.

Since they made with pudding instead of Jello, they don't set up as firm.  You'll have to have some small spoons to use for guests to eat them.

How Do You Eat a Pudding Shot?

You'll need to use a spoon to eat these fall pudding shots.  The vodka prevents them from getting too hard, even in the freezer.

You can also serve cut pieces of graham crackers for your guests to use to scoop out the pudding.

How to Serve Fall Pudding Shots

I like to put my pumpkin spice pudding shots in disposable shot glasses.  This way, I can make them look like mini pumpkin pies.

You can also serve them in little condiment cups to serve them in.

Either way, set up a bowl of small spoons for your guests since they are pretty soft and can't be eaten without a spoon.

You can also serve them with little graham crackers or teddy bear cookies so guests can scoop out the pudding that way.

Can I Make Pudding Shots With Vodka Ahead of Time?

Yes, you can make these Halloween pudding shots before the party.  They will keep for 5 to 7 days in the fridge.

However, for a party, I would recommend making them no more than a day in advance.  Store them covered so they don't dry out.

Do You Freeze or Refrigerate Pudding Shots?

You can place these pumpkin pie pudding shots in the fridge or in the freezer to set up.  They don't set up really well at room temperature due to the alcohol.

They don't freeze in you put them in the freezer, so you can still eat them with a spoon.

How Long do Pudding Shots Last in the Freezer?

For longer storage, you can keep these pumpkin spice Jello pudding shots in the freezer for up to a month.  Place them in a covered container for best results.

Pumpkin Spice Pudding Shots Variations

This pumpkin pie pudding shots recipe is fairly simple, but it's delicious as it is.   However, here are some variations that you can make:

  • Use whipped cream flavored vodka.
  • Use Bailey's Pumpkin Spice Irish Cream Liqueur.
  • Replace the vodka with Fireball, rumchata, or Captain Morgan.
  • Omit the alcohol and increase the milk to make non alcoholic fall pudding shots.
  • Use different flavors of pudding.
  • Top with whipped cream and pumpkin spice for a pretty effect.
  • Sprinkle crushed graham crackers on top.

Pumpkin Pie Pudding Shot Ingredients

Here's what you need to learn how to make pumpkin pudding shots:

Instant Vanilla Pudding Mix - I opted to use vanilla pudding mix and add pumpkin puree for the pumpkin flavor because I think it has a better pumpkin flavor.  You can also use pumpkin spice pudding.  (I've found that the pumpkin pudding is hard to find, so that was another reason for using vanilla.)

Milk - I used regular milk, but you can also use almond milk or oat milk.  Increase the milk to 1 3/4 cup if you are omitting the vodka.

Vodka - I used plain vodka.  Use whipped cream vodka or replace with rumchata, rum, or Fireball if desired.  You can skip the vodka and replace with extra milk for non alcoholic Jello pumpkin pudding shots.

Pumpkin Spice - Learn how to make your own pumpkin spice mix or buy it on Etsy.

Pumpkin Puree - Use 100% pumpkin puree and not pumpkin pie mix.  Learn how to make pumpkin puree in the Instant Pot.

Toppings and Dippers - Top with whipped cream if desired.  You can also add some graham cracker pieces to use as dippers.
